NOVICE (beginner/Cat3) This category is for first-time racers and riders new to the sport of mountain biking. You may have never raced before, or this is your first season racing. You can ride green trails, but may not have all the skills or fitness necessary to ride every section of the course . If you find yourself far ahead of your competition, please upgrade to either SPORT or EXPERT!
SPORT (intermediate/Cat2) This is where most riders belong. You have ridden for awhile and are comfortable riding GREEN and most BLUE trails. You possess the fitness and skills to ride most or all of the course. If you find yourself far ahead of your competition, or have finished a series or five races on the podium, please upgrade to EXPERT!
EXPERT (Advanced/Cat1) These are the most experienced riders and we have an age group to suit you. You are comfortable riding BLUE trails and find GREEN trails easy. You will ride all of the course under perfect circumstances. You realize that you may not finish on the podium, but you want to be challenged and race with the best riders. This is where you belong–salute you! NOTE: If you are winning your category (NOVICE/SPORT) by a significant margin, we will congratulate you on your accomplishments and respectfully ask you to upgrade for future races!
